Adoption The Search

The biggest decision I made in my life was to find my birth family.

I was about 5  when my parents told me that I was adopted and that I had been specially chosen. Being so young it never bothered me, it was only later that I asked a few questions.

A few weeks before my 45 birthday a snap decision was made to go and search for my birth mother. Why? well I had been told that my Father was a fighter pilot in WWII. We had just celebrated the 50th Anniversary of the Battle of Britain. I was about to turn 45 and I thought I better get my finger out before every one is dead.

I had emigrated 4 years before, with my family to Australia from England where I was born and grew up.

Over the years I had contemplated finding out but did not want to upset my parents. I had done a little research but never took any action.

Of course I was now living in Australia and if any family existed they would be located in England. This turned out to be a half truth as I will explain later on in my story.

Between 1990 and 1994 I returned to England 3 times including twice took a side trip to another country in Europe. My second & third trips were to meet my birth Father.  I managed to trace him after 2 years of searching, located in this European country.

Within 6 weeks I was on a plane to England to start my search. I was able to do a lot of research before making the trip.

I was constantly being told not to try and find anyone. The excuses given were that I may fail and be upset. So I started the search expecting nothing ignoring all the advice!

My biggest decision turned out to be the best decision I have ever made in my personal life.

Please follow my story and make comments or ask questions and I shall try to answer in future posts……..
